At the last DeKalb ARES meeting:

We discussed how to create a GO-KIT for use away from your home QTH.  We looked at a complete unit that incorporated both voice and packet communications.  The whole unit was housed in an "off the shelf" tool box which offers a low cost beginning to making your unit.

The discussion led to a demonstration of Winlink via the W4PME-10 gateway station located on the AT&T tower downtown Atlanta.  The antenna we used was a 1/4 wave mag mount model placed near a window that actually faced away from the gateway site.

We also had three first-time visitors to our meeting, George (KI4DSO), Jim (N4RAR) and John (KI4ESV) who has just joined DeKalb ARES.  WELCOME ALL!

At the next DeKalb ARES meeting:

Next meeting will be September 20, 2008.  The plans for the upcoming SET, to be head in conjunction with DeKalb Fire/Rescue CERT exercises on October 3rd will be discussed.  Please join us.
