EVENTS Calendar - note updated events below!!

This is where we'll announce the most recent additions to our activities calendar. If you've visited us before and want to know what's coming up, take a look here first.  Please register for our YAHOO Group to receive last minute info or net alerts.

Check out the internet connected Winlink RMS Packet Station (KJ4QFY-10) located at the DeKalb Fire/Rescue Headquarters building in Tucker, GA.  We have Internet connectivity to allow handling message into/out of the worldwide e-mail system.  If you have any question about how to set up your station, please contact John Aaron (KI4ESV at ARRL dot net) for assistance.  It is NOW on 145.03 MHz.

In anticipation of the NEW GA ARES ID badges, we will be taking photos at our meetings for the next few months.  Be prepared to bring your SMILE when you come to the meeting.

**RED CROSS REGISTRATION - In accordance with the newly signed ARRL/ARC memorandum of understanding, we are asking all our members, who wish to support the American Red Cross in an emergency, to register as a volunteer at the local Red Cross website: www.atlantaredcross.org .  After you submit your registration form, you will be notified about how to complete a basic criminal background check.  Once past that check you will be eligible for free Red Cross training classes on first aid, CPR and other topics of use to you and your community.

Please complete the registration form NOW and return it via FAX or snail mail as indicated.  If you have any questions about the form, please contact Kathy Haworth (404) 575-3182, Volunteer Coordinator at the Atlanta chapter of the ARC.

** AT THE LAST MEETING - We discussed Red Cross participation, the recent activation to support DEMA, plans for the upcoming Simulated Emergency Test on October 3rd, Barry's experience with using APRS via the International Space Station digipeater, the LDS Church Preparedness Fair on 9/11/2010, J-Pole antenna construction (courtesy of John Aaron, KI4ESV) and other interesting topics.

** 07/29/2010 - 7:00 p.m. - Digital Soundcard Tests - 146.955 (1) PL 77.0 Hz, Lee McDaniel, WB4QOJ, AEC in Paulding County ARES will conduct tests on this repeater each Thursday evening for a while.

08/01/2010 - 8:00 p.m. - DeKalb ARES Net - Net Control Station - KE4QCM - Tom

**08/28/2010 - 1:00 p.m. - Regular meeting of DeKalb ARES - SPECIAL PROGRAM - Traffic handling using the ARRL Radiogram format.  Taught by Charles Pennington, K4GK, GA ARES Net Manager.  This basic skill is important to all ARES members and will be a part of the upcoming Simulated Emergency Test in October.  Meetings are held at the DeKalb County Fire/Rescue Headquarters building, 1950 West Exchange Place, Tucker, GA 30084.  Come to the rear parking lot.

08/29/2010 - 8:00 p.m. - DeKalb ARES Net - Net Control Station - W4TGA - Barry

**9/11/2010 - 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - Preparedness Fair - LDS Church - 1947 Brockett Road, Tucker, GA 30084 - DeKalb ARES will have a booth to promote amateur radio and also will offer on-site programming of weather alert radios, in conjunction with DeKalb EMA.  We are looking for volunteers to operate the booth and also to provide roaming communication at the event.  Contact Barry, W4TGA, if you can participate.
