If you are signing up for the Call Taker position use the FCC Call Sign “Call Taker”; otherwise, enter any Amateur or GMRS license you may have.  Details about frequencies and assignments will be sent about a month before the event.

If you have experience with WebEOC, please make a note of that when signing up.

Positions include Water Stops, pace cars, shadows, start and finish line assignments, and call takers in the Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC).  Please sign up as early as possible so we know how many volunteers we’ll have, which will dictate what services we can provide the medical branch during the event.

The 2025 Peachtree Road Race is a major event for the City of Atlanta and we are looking for operators to communicate for race officials, water stops, pace vehicles and at the Piedmont Park Finish area. Use the link above to sign up as either an Amateur Radio Operator and/or a GMRS Radio Operator. Previous years we successfully used GMRS operators inside Piedmont Park and will do so again this year. Start times are o'dark thirty, End times vary by position but all will conclude before noon to allow you to enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend. No experience needed. Great opportunity to support a large fun event and play radio, as well as receive some swag!

Effective 02/01/2024 Jim Penland, N4RAR is our new Dekalb ARES EC. Thanks to Barry Kanne, W4TGA for serving as Dekalb ARES previously. Barry will continue to assist Dekalb ARES as an AEC.
As of 3/13/2024 Dekalb ARES Winlink station has a new callsign of WD5EMA-10.

Recurring Events-Monthly in-person meetings and weekly radio practice nets

Monthly in-person meetings If you are interested in emergency communications, feel free to attend any meeting. No advance registration is needed.

Our next in-person meeting will be on Sat 5/17/2025 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at our new location at  the Dekalb Fire Rescue Headquarters located at 1950 West Exchange Place, Tucker, GA 30084. 7/4/2024-Some Dekalb ARES members participated with communications for the AJC Peachtree Road Race.

7/20/2024- We discussed our recent participation in Field Day.  Barry Kanne, W4TGA gave a presentation on DMR and we learned about how to program codeplugs for DMR radios.

8/17/2024-We discussed FEMA ICS forms.

9/21/2024-Our program was on a battery project by Pat DeLoe, N4MPC and we visited the Dekalb EOC building.

9/26/2024-9/27/2024-Dekalb ARES was activated by Dekalb EMA to provide severe weather and damage reports during Hurricane Helene to the Dekalb EOC.

10/19/2024-We visited the Dekalb EOC and discussed our Hurricane Helene after action report.

1/18/2025- We discussed an after action report on Winter Storm Cora.

2/15/2025-We discussed to plan a simulation exercise to be held 3/15/2025 (simulation exercise was cancelled on 3/15/2025 due to forecast of severe weather)

3/15/2025-We viewed a special severe weather briefing for the forecasted storm.

4/19/2025-We discussed installing an experimental VARA FM Winlink station for Dekalb ARES and Pat De Loe, N4MPC gave a presentation on 'db' signal strength.


Weekly ARES Practice Net

Every Sunday night at 8pm local time, the DeKalb ARES Practice Net meets on the 146.76 (pl 107.2 Hz) repeater of the Alford Memorial Radio Club (frequency change in effect as of 2/4/2024. Our backup repeater is on 145.450- MHz (pl 107.2) also of the Alford Memorial Radio Club and our primary simplex frequency is on 146.460 MHz. You may also check into the net via Echolink via W4BOC-R or node 330246 if you are not in range of the repeater). Dekalb ARES would like to thank the Alford Memorial Radio Club for the use of this repeater.

This net is open to anyone interested in amateur radio emergency communication and you don't need to be a member of DeKalb County ARES to participate.
