It's time to start planning to volunteer for help with communications and situational awareness for the Publix Atlanta Marathon (PAM) to be held Sunday, March 1, 2026 from O'Dark:30 until 10am-2pm depending on your assignment.

To sign up:

2. Enter the password "PAMHAM2026" and click "Submit"

3. Register for the "Communications - HAM operator" slot

If you do not receive an automated confirmation, then your registration did not go through -- please try again.  Save your automated receipt since that allows you to modify your registration status should something happen between now and then.

As usual, details will start to flow out about a month before the event.

7/4/2024-Some Dekalb ARES members participated with communications for the AJC Peachtree Road Race.

7/20/2024- We discussed our recent participation in Field Day.  Barry Kanne, W4TGA gave a presentation on DMR and we learned about how to program codeplugs for DMR radios.

8/17/2024-We discussed FEMA ICS forms.

9/21/2024-Our program was on a battery project by Pat DeLoe, N4MPC and we visited the Dekalb EOC building.

9/26/2024-9/27/2024-Dekalb ARES was activated by Dekalb EMA to provide severe weather and damage reports during Hurricane Helene to the Dekalb EOC.

10/19/2024-We visited the Dekalb EOC and discussed our Hurricane Helene after action report.

1/18/2025- We discussed an after action report on Winter Storm Cora.

2/15/2025-We discussed to plan a simulation exercise to be held 3/15/2025 (simulation exercise was cancelled on 3/15/2025 due to forecast of severe weather)

3/2/2025- Some Dekalb ARES members volunteered to help with communications for the Publix Atlanta Marathon.

3/15/2025-We viewed a special severe weather briefing for the forecasted storm.

4/19/2025-We discussed installing an experimental VARA FM Winlink station for Dekalb ARES and Pat De Loe, N4MPC gave a presentation on 'db' signal strength.

5/17/2025-Our program was on DigiPi-what it is and basic setup by Pat De Loe, N4MPC. Also, Barry Kanne, W4TGA did a demo of connecting to our new VARA-FM Winlink VHF station on top of Stone Mountain.

6/21/2025-Our program was on reviewing an ICS Form 201 form to plan for the upcoming Alford Memorial Radio Club Field Day. Dekalb ARES members will be assisting with Field Day operations again this year with setup, radio operations and teardown/cleanup.

06/28/2025-06/29/2025-Dekalb ARES participated in Field Day with the Alford Memorial Radio Club (AMRC) at Pleasantdale Park in Atlanta/Dekalb county, GA.

07/19/2025-Demo of VARAC/VARA HF by Facundo, KK4ODA. Demo of Dekalb ARES appl (work in progress by James, W4JES). Practice exercise using VARAC and VARA FM.

08/16/2025-Demo of VARAC by Facundo, KK4ODA. Brief overview of TARPN/SPROING (new packet radio network in Metro Atlanta/North Georgia) by Tom, KE4QCM, Demo of new features added to Dekalb ARES appl (work in progress by James, W4JES).

Sat 9/19/2025-Discussed upcoming SET for Sat 10/4/2025 and setup/troubleshooting of different digital modes for upcoming SET.

Sat 10/4/2025-Dekalb ARES members participated in our annual Simulated Emergency Test (SET).

Sat 10/18/2025-We reviewed an After Action Report (AAR) regarding our recent Dekalb ARES SET.

Sat 11/15/2025-We had an exercise drill testing simplex comunications, APRS and Winlink.

Sat 12/20/2025-We did an after action review of our drill that was held on 11/15/2025 and we planned for Dekalb ARES particpation in Winter Field Day in Jan 2026.

Sat 1/3/2026- Some Dekalb ARES members volunteered to help with communications for the Polar Opposite race.

Sat 1/17/2026- Scott Sheppard, KJ4ZZB gave a presentation on APRS.

Sat 1/24/2026 Dekalb ARES members participated in Winter Field day operating as WD5EMA and exchange of '2 O' at the Briarlake Forest Park in Decatur, GA.

Weekly ARES Practice Net

Every Sunday night at 8pm local time, the DeKalb ARES Practice Net meets on the 146.76 (pl 107.2 Hz) repeater of the Alford Memorial Radio Club (frequency change in effect as of 2/4/2024. Our backup repeater is on 145.450- MHz (pl 107.2) also of the Alford Memorial Radio Club and our primary simplex frequency is on 146.460 MHz. You may also check into the net via Echolink via W4BOC-R or node 330246 if you are not in range of the repeater). Dekalb ARES would like to thank the Alford Memorial Radio Club for the use of this repeater.

This net is open to anyone interested in amateur radio emergency communication and you don't need to be a member of DeKalb County ARES to participate.
